An unsanctioned action in memory of student Timur Kacharava who was murdered by nationalists was held in St. Petersburg.

According to Information Agency REGNUM, young people brought flowers, lit candles and put photographs in the window opening. Timur’s parents also came, he was the only son in the family.

About a dozen police officers also arrived, but only watched but did not interfere into the action.

Grigory Yavlinsky, leader of the YABLOKO faction in St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly, laid flowers to Timur’s photographs and talked to his parents.

He said that the murder of Timur Kacharava has now assumed even greater resounance. The state does not know how to deal with nationalistic moods: «The authorities have been only toughening the regime, because it is the condition of its existence, claiming that this is done so that to allegedly solve the issue [of combating nationalism].»

For the first time in the recent years the action has not been agreed upon with the city authorities.
